Alan Carr's Accidental Celebrity Traitors Victory Revelation

Comedian Alan Carr has made a startling confession about his time on the celebrity edition of the hit BBC reality series The Traitors, revealing he accidentally disclosed his victory just twelve hours after filming concluded. The 49-year-old entertainer, who triumphed as a Traitor in last autumn's celebrity version of the show, shared the embarrassing story during an appearance on BBC Radio 2's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.

The Dramatic Finale and Unexpected Slip-Up

Carr secured a dramatic win against faithful contestants historian David Olusoga and actor Nick Mohammed in what became a tense and memorable finale. However, the comedian's celebration was almost immediately followed by what he describes as a moment of sheer stupidity. "I felt so stupid," Carr admitted during the radio interview, explaining how the secret of his triumph unexpectedly slipped out.

The accidental revelation occurred while Carr was filming Channel 4's gameshow Secret Genius shortly after completing The Celebrity Traitors. A cameraman's innocent teasing prompted the comedian to blurt out his victory without realising he was being tested. "The cameraman goes 'congratulations', and I go 'how did you know I won?'" Carr recounted. "He said 'I didn't, I was just joking, just teasing'. So I told them within 12 hours that I had won The Traitors."

Backtracking and Regret

Realising his mistake, Carr immediately attempted to retract his comment with a hasty recovery attempt. "I went, 'haha, got you!' – I had to backtrack, because you can't tell anything," he explained. The comedian expressed particular concern about spoiling the surprise for viewers, adding "But I did well, and I didn't want to spoil it."

Carr's initial expectations for his performance on the show had been remarkably low, with even his agent predicting an early exit. "He said, 'Alan, you'll be out first week with your motor mouth, you aren't going to last'," Carr revealed. "Then it kept going on and on. I thought I would be gone on day two."

Increased Recognition and Unusual Encounters

Since appearing on the increasingly popular programme, which became both a cultural touchstone and ratings winner for the BBC, Carr has noticed a significant increase in public recognition. The comedian shared an amusing anecdote from a recent holiday to Mexico, where he experienced an unexpected encounter.

"I'm never spotted over there, and I was on the way to the pool and I heard this woman from the balcony, 'I see you, Traitor. Don't you hide your face from me. Who are you going to murder today?'" Carr recounted. He joked that such comments might create a misleading impression, saying "People who don't know I was in The Traitors must think I'm a serial killer."

The Traitors Format and Celebrity Edition

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, The Traitors follows a group of contestants – the majority known as Faithfuls – as they attempt to identify the murderous Traitors among them. These Traitors eliminate players during nighttime murders in their pursuit of a substantial cash prize.

The celebrity edition saw Carr and his fellow Traitors successfully eliminate numerous Faithfuls, including singer Paloma Faith, actress Celia Imrie, comedian Lucy Beaumont, and Olympic diver Tom Daley. Despite this aggressive gameplay, Carr managed to remain largely under the radar throughout the competition, ultimately being crowned winner during the series finale.
