Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas is facing an investigation following the closure of his Manchester restaurant, The Spinn, which reportedly left a six-figure tax debt. The 36-year-old actor, who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing last year, resigned as a director of the restaurant's parent company, Gatley Bar & Grill Limited, in April 2022, according to Companies House records.
The restaurant, which opened in 2019, struggled soon after launch due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It closed in 2022 after three years of operation. Reports suggest the company owed £100,000 in tax debts, and an official report has been submitted to the Department for Business and Trade regarding the conduct of the director and former director.
A report quoted by The Sun states: 'We have corresponded with the director, ex-director and creditors, carried out our initial SIP2 investigations and submitted our directors' conduct report to the Department for Business and Trade within three months of our appointment.' The report adds that its contents are confidential.
Thomas previously told the Manchester Evening News that the closure was a difficult decision but that the team had learned a lot. He said: 'We did what we had to do with The Spinn, and we learnt so much building our first venture. More importantly, we had an absolute blast.' He also noted that the pandemic forced them to pivot to takeaways, creating a buzz around their burger menu.
The Mirror has contacted Thomas's spokesperson for comment. The actor now focuses on other ventures, including a bar and a burger sauce company.
