Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty's mother has taken the heartbreaking step of buying a wedding gift for her son and his fiancée, despite being banned from attending their December ceremony.
The Mother's Heartbreaking Gesture
Caroline Peaty, 59, has selected what she describes as "a decent present" from the couple's wedding registry and plans to send a card, though she admits uncertainty about whether they'll even open it. The grandmother from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, revealed her emotional preparations to the Mail Online, demonstrating her enduring hope for reconciliation despite the painful family rift.
The former nursery manager, who dedicated years to supporting her son's swimming career, expressed her deep desire to witness his marriage. "If he changed his mind, I would go," Caroline shared. "I want to go to Bath, to go into the abbey, to watch him get married. I love him, he's still my little boy."
Wedding Details and Family Tensions
Adam Peaty, 30, will marry Holly Ramsay, 25-year-old daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, on December 27 at the historic Bath Abbey. The reception will follow at Kin House, a Georgian estate in the Wiltshire countryside, though Caroline will be notably absent from both events.
The family tensions became public when Caroline missed Holly's Soho Farmhouse hen do, and her sister Louise Williams subsequently criticised Holly in a social media post. Williams wrote: "You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever."
Broader Family Concerns and Financial Barriers
The situation extends beyond Caroline's exclusion, with other family members reportedly unable to afford the wedding costs. One relative told The Sun: "We were sent a 'save the date,' and it's all these country houses. I'm on Universal Credit — I can't afford that."
Relatives have expressed concerns that the Olympic gold medallist has become distant from his working-class roots, with one family source claiming: "He seems to have forgotten where he came from." It's believed Adam's sister Bethany will be the only family member from his side attending the ceremony.
According to aunt Louise Williams, Caroline learned about her exclusion from the guest list while returning her five-year-old grandson George to his mother Eirianedd Munro, forcing her to conceal her "hurt and betrayal" in front of the young child.
Despite initially being delighted about the engagement announcement in September 2024, Caroline now faces the prospect of missing one of her son's most significant life events, clinging to hope that Adam might reconsider with six weeks remaining until the Christmas-time nuptials.
