He has built a reputation as a fearless Wildlife Warrior, but Robert Irwin has revealed the one thing that makes him tremble. Robert, 22, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week and took part in its popular Three Scoops social media segment.
Robert Irwin's Confession on The Tonight Show
Jimmy asked Robert three probing questions about his life, including a request to reveal his biggest phobia. 'A lot of people are afraid of animals – everyone has an animal they're afraid of. What animal are you afraid of?' Jimmy asked.
Robert admitted that he was comfortable with the entire animal kingdom, but certain inanimate objects were another matter. 'There's literally not a single animal I'm afraid of. Like, not a single... because I've grown up with it, right?' Robert explained.
'But I actually do have a phobia – broken glass.' Clearly uncomfortable talking about the sensitive topic, Robert added that the sound of broken glass was an absolute dealbreaker. 'If I hear... I can't even think about it,' he said, giving himself the 'ick'. 'If I hear a glass break I'll leave the venue. Like, I'm out.'
Why Broken Glass?
When Jimmy asked the Aussie star to explain his phobia, Robert said it was partly a safety issue. 'When someone drops a glass and they just go and start picking it up, I'm like, "How do you do that?"' he said. 'I'll jump on a crocodile, mate, but I won't pick up broken glass.'
Jimmy then declared Robert's phobia 'bizarre' before he was asked by Robert to divulge his own worst fear. 'I'm afraid of most of the things that you do,' Jimmy said. Robert jokingly replied: 'I'll deal with the crocs, I'll do the dancing, you deal with the glass.'
New Hosting Gig on Dancing With The Stars
The revelation comes after Robert had fans swooning, yet again, as he confirmed his hosting gig on US Dancing With The Stars spinoff The Next Pro. He took to Instagram to share the announcement with fans via a video that began with Robert sitting in a car with his Dancing With The Stars partner Witney Carson.
Clad in a figure-hugging tank top, Robert's gym-honed arms were on full display. 'We are on our way to make a very exciting announcement,' he said as Witney flexed her biceps. 'Oh wow,' Robert said as he flexed his own bicep. 'That's not the announcement that we're making. We have something that we've kind of both been working on for a while.' With that, Robert and Witney fist-bumped before he added: 'Boom.'
Fan Reactions
While many fans were quick to congratulate Robert on the new gig, others were more impressed with the size of Robert's 'guns'. 'No, the muscle-off at the beginning,' one fan offered, adding laughing and flexed biceps emojis. Another chimed in, begging Robert to divulge his workout routine. 'I really do need that bicep routine and if you say it's just from wrestling crocodiles I will scream,' they wrote as another added: 'I wasn't ready for the muscles.' A fourth summed up the sentiment of many with: 'All the women trying to get on his arms lawl.'
