Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty has made a significant personal statement by officially changing his name in the wake of his weekend wedding to television personality Holly Ramsay.
A New Name and Deepening Family Divide
The gold medallist, 30, has updated his social media profiles to Adam Ramsay Peaty, incorporating his new wife's surname. This move mirrors that of Brooklyn Beckham, who added his wife Nicola Peltz's surname after their own wedding three years ago, and who is also reported to be estranged from parts of his family.
The name change comes against a backdrop of an ongoing and very public fallout with his own family. The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey on Saturday, December 27, 2025, attended by a star-studded guest list that notably excluded Peaty's mother, Caroline, and most of his immediate family.
Wedding Snubs and Heartbreak
His mother, Caroline Peaty, spoke out on the eve of the wedding, expressing profound hurt. She told the Mail: "I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out. This is the first Christmas that I’ve not had my family together – my family is broken."
The roots of the conflict reportedly stretch back to September 2024, when wider family members were not invited to the couple's engagement party. The exclusion continued last month when Caroline was not asked to Holly Ramsay's hen do at Soho Farmhouse, an event which was attended by the bride's mother, Tana Ramsay, and friends including Victoria Beckham.
The guest list controversy extended beyond his parents. Reports claim Peaty's great-aunt, Janet, and her partner Eddie were uninvited just days before the wedding, despite having already booked accommodation and purchased gifts and outfits for the occasion.
Family Loyalties and Public Backlash
The only member of Adam Peaty's close family present at the wedding was his sister, Bethany, who served as a bridesmaid. Her attendance has reportedly led to accusations from some quarters that she betrayed her mother by participating while the rest of the family was excluded.
An insider criticised the situation to The Sun, stating: "Caroline did everything and more to help Adam. She and Mark sacrificed a lot to get him to where he is. Adam ought to be ashamed of himself for going ahead with the wedding without them after everything they did to support him."
As the newlyweds begin their life together, the decision to change his name stands as a powerful symbol of his new family allegiance, while the rift with his birth family shows no immediate signs of healing.
