Research has revealed which decade the UK misses the most, and it's the 1990s. This era, which gave us Friends, the Spice Girls, Saturday-morning TV, Blockbuster video nights, and proper nights out, captured over a third of the public vote, ahead of the 1980s.
The study shows that nostalgic nights out are surging in popularity, with 70% of people yearning for activities that help them switch off and get away from their phones. Over half have recently visited the cinema, amusement arcades, and bowling alleys, while bingo clubs are also high on the list of booming nostalgic pastimes in Britain.
Conducted by The Bingo Association, the poll found that the love for the 90s is driven by its reputation as a simpler way of life, with better music and entertainment, less time spent on technology and screens, and more face-to-face interaction. Top trends that Brits thought made the 90s the best decade included Friends, Spice Girls, Game Boys, and Saturday morning TV.
Revival of Traditional Social Activities
Nicole Garrett, Chief Executive of The Bingo Association, said: "As people look to switch off and reconnect, we're seeing a revival in traditional social activities like bingo that bring people together in a fun, relaxed setting, with younger generations in particular flocking to bingo clubs in search of shared, real-world experiences."
She added: "National Bingo Week is the perfect opportunity to get involved, offering a chance to step away from scrolling and enjoy a great night out. Whether you're a regular or trying it for the first time, it's all about big laughs, real connections and the thrill of playing together - with the added excitement of a guaranteed £250,000 prize up for grabs on Sunday, June 28."
National Bingo Week will take place from Monday, June 22 to Sunday, June 28, with bingo clubs across the country hosting special sessions and exclusive offers throughout the week.
