Piers Morgan's World Cup U-turn Hailed as Perfect England Defeat Summary
Piers Morgan's World Cup U-turn Hailed as Perfect Summary

Piers Morgan's spectacular U-turn during England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina has been hailed as the perfect summary of the match. The outspoken presenter, 61, live-tweeted the entire game as the nation watched nervously.

From Praise to Frustration

Throughout the match, Piers was emphatic in his support for England, tweeting "come on boys" and praising Spence as the "most improved player of this World Cup." After England's first goal, he jubilantly tweeted: "This has been a Tuchel tactical masterclass. Take us home, Thomas!" However, just twenty minutes later, as Argentina equalised, he simply posted "FFS."

Fans quickly noticed the drastic shift in tone, with one commenter calling it the "best summary of the ENG-ARG game" and another joking about "the duality of man."

Defending Tuchel After the Defeat

Earlier today, Piers returned to X (formerly Twitter) to blast criticism aimed at manager Thomas Tuchel. Many fans had criticised the German head coach for being too defensive and "parking the bus" after taking the lead, instead of pushing for more goals.

"Yes, England were too defensive. But the abuse pouring down on Thomas Tuchel's head today is ridiculous," Piers insisted. "He was 5 minutes away from leading us into our first World Cup Final in 60 years. And if we'd hung on, he'd be lauded a hero today by the same people trashing him."

He then praised England's players, saying they "barely put a foot wrong" and gave fans "some fantastic moments, especially the 10-man heroics in Mexico." He added: "The next big tournament is the Euros on UK soil. I back Tuchel to bring it home then."

Taking Aim at Argentina

Piers also criticised Argentina's players for holding up a controversial political banner during their victory celebrations. The sign read "Las Malvinas son Argentinas" ("The Falklands are Argentine").

"Classless pr*cks," Piers spat. "I hope Spain beat them as badly in the Final as we beat them in the Falklands War."

The team now risks disciplinary action from FIFA, whose code of conduct bans "banners, flags, flyers, apparel and other paraphernalia that are of a political, offensive, and/or discriminatory nature" inside stadiums. In 2014, FIFA fined the Argentine Football Association £20,000 after players held up a similar banner in a friendly against Slovenia.

Reigniting Old Feuds

These tweets come after Piers reignited his feud with Alex Beresford, five years after dramatically leaving Good Morning Britain following a disagreement about Meghan Markle. In an episode of his YouTube show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, he took a swipe at Beresford, saying: "I don't see the weather guy very often. I would cross continents to avoid him."

Their public argument began when Piers claimed the Duchess of Sussex had lied about Buckingham Palace rejecting her pleas for help with suicidal thoughts. Beresford confronted him on air, leading to Piers storming off set. He later quit after refusing to apologise, attracting 41,000 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.
