Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has announced a Liverpool show to celebrate the release of his first studio album in four years. His new record, The Age Of Everything, will be released on Friday, October 2.
Who is Johnny Marr?
Johnny Marr rose to fame as guitarist and songwriter for The Smiths, alongside Morrissey, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce. The band released four acclaimed studio albums before splitting in 1987 and became known for hits including This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now? and Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.
Since launching his solo career with The Messenger in 2013, Marr has released a string of UK Top 10 albums. He has also worked with Billie Eilish and Hans Zimmer on the James Bond theme No Time To Die and played with bands including The The, The Cribs and Modest Mouse.
New Album Details
The Age Of Everything is Marr's fifth solo album and follows 2022's Fever Dreams Pts 1-4. Its lead single, Spin, was released on Tuesday, June 16.
Speaking about the album, Marr described it as his most cathartic record to date. He said the title reflects both the sense of cultural overwhelm caused by technology and the possibilities that can emerge from it.
Liverpool Show and Tour
Marr will support the album with a UK tour that includes headline dates in Manchester and London. Before those shows, he will play intimate warm-up gigs at Leeds Stylus on Monday, July 6, and Liverpool O2 Academy on Tuesday, July 7.
Tickets went on sale this week. They are priced at £43.05.
Album Production and Formats
The 10-track album was written in London and recorded in Manchester, with many songs developed while Marr toured North America. Several of the new tracks were previewed live during those performances before their official release.
The Age Of Everything will be available on streaming platforms, CD and multiple vinyl editions. These include standard black vinyl, a limited-edition red pressing and an exclusive three-colour splatter vinyl available through Marr's official store.
