The statement on Tyler's website read: 'Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.' Born Gaynor Sullivan in Skewen, South Wales, Tyler rose to fame in the late 1970s with 'It's a Heartache' and achieved worldwide success in the 1980s with hits written by Jim Steinman. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, she sold millions of records, earned Grammy and Brit Award nominations, and was appointed an MBE for services to music.
Her final studio album, The Best Is Yet to Come, was released in 2021. She had been planning a European tour this year but had to cancel due to her illness. Tyler is survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan, whom she married in 1973.
