Emma Willis Fights Back Tears in Emotional Speech at Attitude Pride Awards
Emma Willis Emotional at Attitude Pride Awards

Emma Willis fought back tears as she delivered an emotional speech about the kind of world she hopes her three children will grow up in while hosting the Attitude Pride Awards. The presenter, recently announced as the new host of Strictly Come Dancing, became visibly emotional as she reflected on equality, acceptance, and the importance of LGBTQ+ representation during the ceremony at The Chancery Rosewood in London.

Symbolism of the Venue

Opening the awards, Willis noted the symbolism of the venue, telling guests it was “ironic” that the hotel, which once housed the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, was now celebrating individuality. “This room was built for diplomats and it's now being used to celebrate people who got where they are by being anything but,” she said.

Emotional Reflection on Her Children

However, it was when she began speaking about the future she wants for her children—Isabelle, Ace, and Trixie, whom she shares with husband Matt Willis—that she became overcome with emotion. “What kind of...,” she began before choking up. “What kind of world do we want to live in?” “Oh, God. I've got three kids, and I want to live in a world where they are free to be themselves. Where they feel safe to express themselves in whatever way they choose and that they are free to love whoever they choose, without fear,” she continued. “It's because of all of you in this room that hopefully they'll be able to grow up and do that.”

Praise for Honorees

Regaining her composure, Willis praised the work of those being honoured, adding: “This is, I think, the most important awards ceremony of the year. We are shining a light on the real people who make a real difference.”

New Role on Strictly Come Dancing

In May, Willis said she couldn't “find the words” to describe how she felt after she, along with Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe, were announced as Strictly Come Dancing's new hosts. The long-awaited line-up will take over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their departure from the programme in October 2025.
