A new exhibition by Ayrshire-based digital artist Rona McSeveny has opened at the McKechnie Institute in Girvan. ‘Art Deco Ayrshire’ celebrates the natural and cultural beauty of Ayrshire through a collection of colourful digital prints inspired by local landmarks and landscapes.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition features locations from Irvine in the north to Girvan in the south, reimagined through the distinctive visual language of Art Deco. Taking inspiration from railway posters of the 1920s and 1930s, which promoted rail travel to coastal towns, Rona’s work combines recognisable architecture, design and scenery with a bold Art Deco style.
Among the locations featured is Girvan’s Art Deco railway station, the only operating Art Deco station in Scotland. More than 30 framed digital prints will be on display throughout the exhibition and will be available to purchase from the gallery.
Council Comments
South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to see some of Ayrshire’s most recognisable landmarks and landscapes brought to life in a completely different way. Rona’s Art Deco style is a great fit for the subject matter, particularly with Girvan’s own Art Deco railway station featuring in the exhibition.”
Councillor Clark, whose remit includes culture and tourism, continued: “The McKechnie Institute is an important part of Girvan and South Ayrshire’s cultural offering, and I’m delighted that we’re able to host this exhibition, giving residents and visitors another reason to explore the town and enjoy the work of a local artist.”
