A UK father has become an overnight internet sensation after throwing his hands up in despair at his six-year-old daughter's seemingly "impossible" maths homework. The bewildered dad took to social media to plead for help, and his post has since gone viral, striking a chord with parents across the nation.
The confusing question asked the young girl to identify which of five numbers was the "odd one out." The numbers in question were 2, 4, 6, and 8, with the number 23 sitting defiantly amongst them.
The post, which has since garnered thousands of likes and comments, read: "So my six-year-old daughter who's in year one got this homework task. I'm confused. What is the right answer? I think I'm having a brain fart. Please help."
Commenters were quick to jump in with a mix of genuine solutions and hilarious suggestions. The most logical answer, agreed upon by many, was that 23 is the only number that is not divisible by two, making it the only odd number in the sequence. Others pointed out it was the only number not in the two times table.
However, the internet being the internet, plenty of alternative theories emerged. Some jesters claimed the number 4 was the outlier because it contained a curved line, while others argued it was 8, as it is the only number with two closed loops.
The viral moment perfectly captures the universal struggle of modern parenting, where the new primary school curriculum often leaves adults feeling baffled and out of their depth. It's a heartwarming and hilarious reminder that sometimes, the homework is just as much of a test for the parents.
