School Lockdown as Armed Teenager Wanders Campus
A major security alert unfolded at North Sydney Boys High School on Thursday, prompting a full lockdown after a teenager was seen carrying a large knife on school grounds. The incident, which occurred around 12.40pm on Falcon Street on Sydney's lower north shore, left students and staff terrified as they barricaded themselves inside classrooms for their own safety.
Police Response and Arrest
Police were called to the scene following reports of an altercation between two boys inside a classroom. It is understood that one of the students subsequently left a food technology class while armed with the knife. Aerial footage from the school captured the tense situation, showing a handful of heavily-armed police officers trailing the 15-year-old boy as he walked around the campus.
During the ongoing chase, all students were ordered to remain in their classrooms as a precautionary measure. The situation was eventually brought under control when police deployed a taser to subdue the teenager. The 15-year-old was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained on Friday morning.
Aftermath and Official Statements
It is understood that the student is now receiving treatment for mental health issues. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any criminal charges will be filed in connection with the incident. A spokesperson for the NSW Department of Education confirmed that the lockdown was implemented purely as a safety precaution.
All students and staff were confirmed to be safe, and classes were able to resume after 1.30pm, once the immediate threat had been neutralised and the scene was declared secure by police.
