A teacher has been formally charged following a violent incident at a secondary college in Melbourne's south-east, which left the school's principal hospitalised with stab wounds.
Rapid Police Response to School Emergency
Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man from Mulgrave within just nine minutes of receiving a distressed emergency call from Keysborough Secondary College on Tuesday afternoon. The swift police action came after reports of a serious assault on the school grounds.
The victim of the alleged attack was the college's principal, 43-year-old Aaron Sykes. He sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that Mr Sykes has since been discharged from hospital care.
Charges Laid Against Alleged Attacker
The accused, a colleague of the principal, now faces a series of serious criminal charges. Police have laid multiple charges including recklessly engaging in conduct placing a person in danger of serious injury, intentionally causing injury, two counts of unlawful assault, and assault with a weapon.
The alleged assailant was also treated for a minor injury before being taken into police custody. He remains under police guard while awaiting his court appearance.
Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
The 37-year-old teacher is scheduled to appear before Dandenong Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning, where he is expected to make an application for bail. The case has sent shockwaves through the local educational community.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man being escorted from the school premises and placed into an ambulance following the incident. The investigation continues as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assault at the secondary college.
