Emergency services rushed to St Mark's RC Primary School in Salford on Friday morning after a man carrying a brick entered the school grounds, prompting a lockdown. Police and ambulance crews responded to the incident on Queensway in the Clifton area shortly after 10am.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the man was potentially suffering a medical episode. He caused alarm to staff and pupils and damaged a window before officers arrived and took him into custody. No children or staff were harmed.
The 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of breaching a court order and criminal damage. He was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. The school closed for the day and sent children home.
Parents gathered outside the school to collect their children as pupils were seen leaving the premises. Police confirmed that the situation was under control and there was no wider threat to the public.
