Primary School Placed in Lockdown After Alleged Stabbing Incident
Police have questioned an 11-year-old boy following an alleged stabbing incident at a Melbourne primary school that left an eight-year-old pupil injured. The disturbing event occurred at Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick on Thursday morning, just as the school bell rang to mark the start of the school day.
Both Brentwood Park Primary School and the neighbouring Kambrya College, which share premises on Bemersyde Drive, were immediately placed into lockdown around 9am as authorities responded to the emergency situation.
Injuries Treated at Scene
The eight-year-old victim sustained what police described as non-life-threatening injuries during the alleged attack. According to a police spokesperson, paramedics treated the boy at the scene and determined he did not require hospital treatment.
A woman also received minor injuries during the incident and was similarly treated by emergency services at the school. The nature of her involvement and relationship to the school community has not been disclosed.
The 11-year-old boy was located and spoken to by police officers at the scene before being taken to hospital for assessment.
Parental Response and Community Concern
The Herald Sun reported that a steady stream of concerned parents continued to arrive at the school throughout the afternoon to collect their children following the incident.
One parent who came to pick up his children told the publication that his wife had informed him about what happened. "She is American so it hits a bit differently," he explained, "so we thought it was best we come pick them up."
