Fans of the beloved children's show Bluey are in a period of uncertainty, with the last full episode airing in spring 2024 and the upcoming film not due until summer 2027. To bridge this three-year gap, a new set of minisodes has been released on Disney+, having previously aired on ABC Kids and YouTube in 2021.
The minisodes are much shorter than standard episodes, ranging from one to three minutes, and function as a sketch comedy version of the show. Highlights include 'Cinderella', where Bandit improvises a bedtime story, and 'Honk', featuring an uncharacteristically violent game. These episodes capture the spirit of Bluey but feel like cut scenes from longer episodes.
However, the minisodes also include weaker content: four of the ten are simply characters singing nursery rhymes, and another is a wordless dance to old music. Critics argue these resemble 'Cocomelon', a show Bluey has always distinguished itself from. This comes at a crucial time, as creator Joe Brumm may leave after the 2027 film, raising questions about the show's future quality.
