Residents of Bridgend have launched an online petition opposing plans to close a Flying Start nursery in the North Cornelly area. The proposal, which would shut down the Flying Start provision at Afon Y Felin Primary School, was approved by Bridgend County Borough Council during a cabinet meeting in May.

"Bridgend County Borough Council has stepped in and looked at how Flying Start services based at Afon Y Felin Primary could be provided differently in future in the North Cornelly area after being informed that the current provider does not intend to retender for the contract," the spokesperson said. They confirmed that several other approved Flying Start providers are operating within the community, allowing children to transition smoothly.
The council is writing to parents to explain the situation, reassure them about available options, and offer support in transitioning to new providers. Their goal is to ensure no child misses out on Flying Start services and to make the transition as smooth as possible.
