Prince Harry's five-day visit to the UK in July 2026 was marred by significant logistical and security challenges before he even landed, according to an insider who described the situation as chaotic and recurring.
Security Issues Disrupt Plans
The visit, which marked the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games scheduled for Birmingham in 2027, faced uncertainty over whether Harry would bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. An insider told PEOPLE: “This is not the first time it has not been plain sailing with correspondence or trying to make things work. It all comes back to security. If that was resolved, there would be so much more certainty every time he comes—or they come.”
Harry's Solo Engagements
During his five days in the UK, Harry carried out solo engagements related to his charities, including the Invictus Games, WellChild, and Scotty's Little Soldiers. Meghan Markle did not accompany him to these events. The couple had initially planned for Meghan to travel to Birmingham with Harry, but she opted out due to security concerns.
Private Meeting with King Charles
Harry did meet privately with his father, King Charles, during the trip. For this engagement, he was joined by Meghan and their children. It was the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in four years.
Legal Setback
Prior to the visit, Prince Harry lost his final legal appeal against the UK government's decision to reduce his official security during visits. The loss marked another setback in his long-running battle for safety arrangements.
