Jeremy Vine Slams 'Disgusting' Death Wish After Ann Widdecombe Remark
Jeremy Vine Slams 'Disgusting' Death Wish Remark

Jeremy Vine has condemned an Aberdeen University employee, Heather Herbert, after she posted a social media message hoping that the late Ann Widdecombe 'died in pain'. Speaking on his Channel 5 show on 16 July 2026, Vine said he was 'amazed' that someone with a university job could make such a remark.

Panellists React to 'Appalling' Comments

Joining Vine were panellists Albie Amankona and Carolyn Harris. Carolyn described the situation as 'absolutely crazy', while Albie called the comments 'appalling'. He added: 'These people who dislike Ann because of her socially conservative views… they like to paint themselves as the compassionate bunch. And yet, here they are, wishing that a 78-year-old woman died in pain because they disagreed with her views.'

Social Media Backlash and Police Action

Viewers shared Vine's outrage on social media. One tweeted: 'Fair play to Jeremy, it needs calling out. I hope she does lose her job, she must be punished… It's outrageous.' Another said: 'Regardless of what people are or think, we all should have the right to express our views without threatening or being in fear of violent reprisal.'
