Ann Widdecombe's Chilling Warning Hours Before Grisly Murder
Ann Widdecombe's Chilling Warning Hours Before Murder

Former MP Ann Widdecombe gave her last live television interview just four hours before she was killed, warning of a hidden "establishment" operating behind the scenes of UK politics. The 78-year-old appeared on TalkTV via videolink from her home, speaking to presenter Mark Dolan about Nigel Farage's resignation and his subsequent by-election run in Clacton-on-Sea.

Widdecombe's Final Interview

During the interview, Widdecombe expressed deep distrust in parliamentary processes. "I've got very little trust left now in parliamentary processes," she said. "If you look at this government... look at the way that it's reacted when it's felt vulnerable... Changes to political donations, cancelling local elections - we all remember that. Going for votes at 16. Loosening the voter ID requirements. They react in such a way that is geared all around self-preservation."

She added: "I do think now that different parts of the establishment act in ways which I think are extremely questionable."

Discovery of the Body

Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP and Brexit MEP, was bludgeoned to death in her remote bungalow in Haytor, Dartmoor, Devon. Police believe she was attacked around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, July 8. Her bloodied body was found at 11:40 am on Thursday, July 9, approximately 24 hours later.

The alarm was first raised at lunchtime on Wednesday, July 8, after a Channel 5 researcher sent her a text at 12:19 pm about an appearance on a topical news show. Despite repeated messages and calls, they could not reach her.

Arrest and Investigation

By Friday, July 10, police had launched a murder investigation. On Saturday night, July 11, Devon and Cornwall Police announced the arrest of a 28-year-old white British man in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, 270 miles from Widdecombe's home, on suspicion of murder.

Counter-terrorism police are investigating whether the suspect was motivated by left-wing extremism and planning further violence against other high-profile figures. Detectives have confirmed the attack was "targeted" and said determining whether the suspect was targeting Reform UK figures will be a "line of investigation."
