Shocking dashcam footage has emerged capturing one of the most reckless and bizarre motoring incidents seen on British roads. The video, which has sparked a police investigation, shows a car travelling at speed with a passenger perched precariously on the open boot lid.
The incredible scene was captured by a stunned motorist on the A46, a major dual carriageway. The footage shows a black Volkswagen Golf cruising along with its boot wide open. Most alarmingly, a person is clearly seen sitting on the lip of the boot, legs dangling, with no apparent restraint or safety measure.
The witness, who was driving behind the vehicle, stated: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. This person was just sitting there as the car was moving at around 50 mph. It was an accident waiting to happen."
This hair-raising stunt represents a clear and extreme breach of the Highway Code. Not only was the passenger in immediate danger of falling onto the road, but the open boot also severely obstructed the driver's view through the rear window.
