Wheelchair Pretence Shoplifter Jailed for 3 Years After Beer Theft
Man jailed for pretending to be in wheelchair to steal beer

A violent shoplifter has been sentenced to more than three years in prison after he pretended to be a wheelchair user to steal crates of beer from a supermarket before assaulting a security guard.

The Deceptive Theft

Davey Brown, aged 19, carried out his brazen theft at a Sainsbury's store located in Staplehurst, Kent. In an attempt to avoid detection, Brown feigned being a wheelchair user, using the disguise to steal two full crates of beer.

His plan unravelled when he was confronted by a security guard as he attempted to leave the premises with the stolen goods.

A Violent Confrontation

When the security guard intervened, the situation escalated dramatically. Brown did not simply surrender; instead, he became violent.

He punched the security guard and began throwing beer bottles and other items during the altercation. This aggressive outburst resulted in injuries to both the security guard and a second shop employee who was present.

Following the assault, Brown fled the scene in an effort to evade responsibility for his actions.

Arrest and Sentencing

Despite his initial escape, Brown was soon apprehended by police and placed under arrest. His conduct did not improve upon his detention.

He made a series of threats and directed abusive comments towards the arresting officers. This led to him being charged with multiple criminal offences, including robbery, affray, and common assault.

At his court hearing, Brown entered a guilty plea to all charges. On 6 November, he was sentenced at court to a total of three years and one month behind bars. In a further punitive measure, he was also disqualified from driving.
