Sajid Idris, a 44-year-old man from Cardiff, has appeared in court charged with multiple terrorism offences following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing Wales. The charges include disseminating a terrorist publication, being reckless as to whether it encouraged acts of terrorism, and supporting a proscribed organisation, namely Al-Muhajiroun.
Court Appearance and Remand
Idris appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on July 17, 2026. He was remanded in custody pending a further hearing at the Central Criminal Court, known as the Old Bailey, scheduled for August 21. The case has drawn attention due to the nature of the charges and the involvement of counter-terrorism authorities.
Police Reassurance
Following the hearing, South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Trudi Meyrick addressed public concerns. She stated: "We understand how concerning these charges will be to the Cardiff communities and our wider communities of South Wales and want to reassure them that we are working closely with Counter Terrorism Police to keep the public safe." Meyrick emphasized that while the charges are serious, there was "no direct identified threat" to communities in South Wales.
Ongoing Investigation
The operation was conducted by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing Wales, who have been working with local police to ensure public safety. Authorities encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police in confidence. The investigation continues as Idris awaits his next court appearance.
