Man charged with upskirting in Liverpool city centre

Ryan Shead, 33, of Anstey Road, Stoneycroft, has been charged with three counts of recording an image under clothing to observe another without consent and one count of breach of a sexual harm prevention order. The charges follow reports of alleged "upskirting" in Liverpool city centre.

Incident details

Police were flagged down by security staff on Wood Street at around 1.10am on Thursday, July 16, following reports a man had allegedly been seen using his mobile phone to film women in a bar. The suspect was identified as Shead and subsequently charged.

Court appearance

Shead was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court on Friday, July 17. The court will hear the charges related to the alleged offences.

Legal context

Upskirting became a specific criminal offence in England and Wales under the Voyeurism (Offences) Act 2019, which came into force in April 2019. The offence carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Breach of a sexual harm prevention order can also lead to further penalties.
