Australia's Worst Female Serial Killer Defends Babysitting After Release
Female Serial Killer Defends Babysitting After Prison

Australia's most notorious female serial killer has publicly defended her decision to resume looking after children decades after being convicted of murdering three infants in her care.

A Killer's Defence: 'Ancient History'

Helen Moore, once infamously known as the 'babysitter killer', has broken her silence for the first time following revelations she allegedly hosted neighbours' children for sleepovers without disclosing her horrific past. The 63-year-old, who now goes by Helen Anderson, maintains she has done nothing wrong and is being unfairly targeted.

'Anything to do with children now is irrelevant. All my supervision is complete,' Moore told the Daily Mail. 'It shouldn’t concern anybody what I do. All this was 45 years ago. Ancient history.'

She added, 'And because I'm the one with the criminal record, it's always the easiest path to believe anyone else but me.'

A Trail of Death in Sydney's Suburbs

The killing spree began when Moore was a teenager in the western Sydney suburb of Claymore. She smothered babies as they slept in their cots. Initially, the tragedies were dismissed as cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death.

For two years, the pattern of deaths went undetected until police were called and Moore made a full confession. She received three life sentences for murder and a further 10 years for two attempted murders, but served just 13 years behind bars before being granted parole.

The crimes started after the death of her own 14-month-old brother, Andrew, in March 1979, from what was believed to be SIDS. Moore claims she was mentally unstable at the time. 'I was young. I was very mentally unstable due to the death of Andrew,' she said this week.

In the aftermath, she began offering to babysit. While loved ones thought she sought comfort, police later stated she was hunting her next victims.

Brother's Warning and Community Outrage

Moore's brother, Craig Moorley, has spoken out to warn his sister's community in Lake Haven on the New South Wales Central Coast, where she lives under a changed name. He claims she has been allowed to care for children again, despite strict prohibition orders from her release.

'People don't know what she did and they deserve to because she is evil,' Moorley said. 'She is Australia's worst female serial killer and she is just going about her life having kids at her house for sleepovers.'

He has reported his sister to police for historic child abuse, alleging she tortured him and his brothers, and vows to continue alerting the public. 'I won't stop until she is back behind bars or dead,' he stated.

Moore has hit back, accusing her brother of a personal vendetta and claiming the historic abuse was against her. New South Wales Police have confirmed they are investigating her brother's claims.

Despite the renewed scrutiny and death threats which she says have left her fearing for her safety, Moore insists she has rebuilt her life. 'I have worked damn hard for 45 years to be a good person. I don't even have a speeding ticket or a parking fine. My record since release should speak for itself but no one cares.'
