X Factor's Chico Pleads Not Guilty to Drink-Driving, Blames Cough Medicine
X Factor star Chico denies drink-driving charge

Former X Factor star Chico has appeared in court to deny a charge of drink-driving, with his legal team suggesting a common over-the-counter remedy could be to blame.

Court Appearance and Not Guilty Plea

Yousseph Slimani, known to the public by his stage name Chico, formally pleaded not guilty at Willesden Magistrates’ Court. The singer, who rose to fame on the ITV talent show, faces an allegation of driving with excess alcohol.

The prosecution alleges that Slimani was found to have 40 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. This reading exceeds the legal limit in England and Wales, which is set at 35 microgrammes.

The Defence's Claim

In a notable twist, Slimani's defence indicated they may challenge the breathalyser evidence. They suggested that cough medicine consumed by the defendant could have influenced the reading taken by police.

The alleged offence is said to have occurred on 13 December. Following his court appearance, the entertainer was released on bail.

Next Steps and Trial Date

The case will now proceed to a full trial. Willesden Magistrates’ Court has scheduled the hearing for 9 April, where the evidence from both sides will be examined.

This development marks a challenging period for the performer, best known for his 2005 hit "It's Chico Time." The outcome of the April trial will determine whether he is convicted of the drink-driving charge.
