A quiet street in Romford has been rocked by tragedy after a woman in her 60s was found dead in what police are treating as a suspected murder.
Officers were called to a residential property in the east London suburb in the early hours of Tuesday morning following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim's body.
Essex Police have launched a full-scale investigation, with forensic teams meticulously examining the scene for evidence. Detectives are currently treating the death as suspicious and have confirmed they are searching for potential suspects.
The victim's identity has not yet been formally released, though neighbours describe shock at the incident occurring in what they considered a peaceful area.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones, leading the investigation, stated: "This appears to be an isolated incident, but we are pursuing all lines of enquiry. We urge anyone with information to come forward immediately."
Police have cordoned off the property while specialist teams continue their work. Residents report seeing multiple police vehicles and forensic vans throughout the day.
Local MP Andrew Rosindell expressed his condolences, calling the incident "a terrible tragedy for our community" and urging anyone with information to assist police.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officers conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
