Two Women Stabbed to Death in Long Island Attacks

Two women were stabbed to death in separate incidents just hours apart on Long Island, New York, authorities said. A suspect is in custody, and charges are pending.

Details of the Attacks

Nassau County police reported that the suspect knew both victims, but a motive for the killings remains unclear, according to CBS News. The first attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. outside a Wendy's restaurant in Island Park, where a female employee was killed while taking out the trash.

Hours later, at approximately 3 a.m., the same suspect allegedly carried out a second fatal stabbing inside a home on West Mineola Avenue in Valley Stream, police said. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody outside a 7-Eleven in Lynbrook. Charges are pending.

Community Reaction

The stabbings shocked residents in Valley Stream, which saw a large police presence Friday morning. Bishop Claude Hibbert, whose church sits next to the crime scene, described the area as typically peaceful. “I’ve not gotten much information from the police, but I figured that it has to be something serious, because the place is taped off,” Hibbert said. “It’s normally a very, very peaceful area.”

Police continue to investigate the incidents, and further details are expected as the case develops.
