Two Dead in Texas Shopping Mall Shooting

A man opened fire on five individuals at a shopping centre north of Dallas on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities, according to Texas police. The incident occurred at K Towne Plaza in Carrollton, an area known as Koreatown.

Police Statement on the Shooting

Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo stated that the shooting was not a random act of violence and that the victims were acquainted with the attacker. “We don’t know exactly what the meeting was about, but we understand it to be a business relation,” he said.

Suspect Apprehended

Police reported that the 69-year-old suspect was arrested approximately four miles away at a grocery store following a brief foot chase. Video footage posted online showed officers with their weapons drawn as they moved past doors at the plaza.

Agents from the FBI and another federal agency were among the law enforcement personnel at the scene.

Carrollton, with a population of 130,000, is located 20 miles (32 kilometres) north of Dallas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 4,000 residents are of Korean descent. It is anchored by large businesses such as H Mart and features numerous restaurants offering Korean fried chicken and shaved ice desserts.
