A teenager has been arrested after a boy was killed during a police pursuit in Bristol. Officers had chased a white Nissan Juke through south Bristol before it collided with a black Audi S3 just after 4am on Sunday.
One teenage boy, a passenger in the Nissan, was killed in the crash on the A37 Wells Road. Two other teenagers in the Nissan and the Audi driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Arrest and Custody
A 17-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was discharged from hospital and taken into police custody.
The family of the boy who died have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, Avon and Somerset Police said.
Investigation and Referral
As the death followed police contact, the force has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The A37 was closed as an investigation was conducted before the road was reopened just after 4pm on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: 'We have received a mandatory referral from Avon and Somerset Police following a fatal road collision that occurred in Bristol in the early hours of Sunday October 25.'
'The collision, involving two vehicles driven by members of the public, occurred on the A37 Wells Road at the junction with Airport Road and Wootton Park.'
'A teenage boy, a front-seat passenger in one of the cars, died at the scene and our condolences go out to the boy's family and friends.'
'We are currently assessing the circumstances and will decide in due course whether an IOPC investigation is required.'
