Son Allegedly Stabs Mother to Death After E-Scooter Chase in Willesden
A 25-year-old man allegedly chased his mother on an electric scooter before stabbing her to death in front of horrified bus passengers, according to evidence presented at the Old Bailey. The court heard that Najiib Raytaan is accused of murdering his own mother, 50-year-old Amaal Raytaan, in a violent attack that unfolded on a residential street in Willesden, north-west London.
Details of the Alleged Attack
The tragic incident occurred last Saturday afternoon when Amaal Raytaan visited her son's home in Willesden. Shortly after arriving, she reportedly ran from the property and began desperately banging on neighbours' doors for help. Prosecutors allege that her son pursued her on an e-scooter while brandishing a large knife.
It is claimed that Najiib Raytaan caught up with his mother on Pound Lane, Willesden, where he allegedly stabbed her in the back as multiple bus passengers watched in horror. Several witnesses immediately called emergency services at approximately 4pm, reporting the violent scene unfolding before them.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Police officers rushed to the scene alongside paramedics, where they found Amaal Raytaan with serious wounds. Despite the urgent efforts of emergency medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.34pm, just over half an hour after the initial 999 calls were made.
According to court testimony, the alleged attacker fled the location on his e-scooter following the stabbing. He was subsequently arrested at around 8am after returning to his flat on Harlesden Road, where police took him into custody.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Najiib Raytaan was formally charged on Monday with murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He appeared before Judge Nigel Lickley KC at the Old Bailey for a hearing to establish a timetable for the case.
During the court appearance, the defendant, wearing a grey jumper, spoke only to confirm his identity before being remanded into custody. A plea hearing has been scheduled for April 22, with a provisional trial set for either August 3 at Winchester Crown Court or October 5 at the Old Bailey.
Family and Investigation
Members of the Raytaan family attended the court hearing, where they received support from specialist police officers. While the Metropolitan Police has not officially released the identity of the victim, court documents name her as Amaal Raytaan, and prosecutor Nadeem Holland referred to her during proceedings as the defendant's mother.
Forensic police officers conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene on Pound Lane, meticulously gathering evidence in connection with the alleged murder. The investigation continues as legal proceedings move forward through the justice system.
