Nick Reiner, the son of late actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday to face charges related to the December 2025 killings of his parents. The 32-year-old looked anxious and notably thinner as he stood before Judge Sam Ohta at the LA Superior Court.
Not Guilty Plea Entered
Reiner has pleaded not guilty to six felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of special circumstances involving multiple murders, and two counts of special circumstances involving the use of a deadly weapon—identified as a knife. During the brief hearing, he was asked if he would agree to return to court on September 15, when a date will be set for a full preliminary hearing to review the prosecution's evidence. Reiner consented, and his public defender, Kimberly Greene, confirmed she is still awaiting discovery evidence from prosecutors. Greene took over the case after Reiner's initial attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew in January.
Autopsy Reports Pending
Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Chong stated, "We are still waiting for the autopsy reports on both victims." Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer, 70, were found dead four months ago, each having suffered multiple stab wounds. Their daughter, Romy Reiner, reportedly discovered their bodies at the family home in Brentwood and told law enforcement that a relative "should be a suspect" because they were "dangerous." The Los Angeles County medical examiner has ruled both deaths as homicides caused by multiple sharp force injuries.
Mental Health and Prior Incidents
During the January hearing, no mention was made of Reiner's mental state at the time of the killings, though insiders previously claimed he was receiving psychiatric treatment for mental health issues around the time of his parents' deaths. In the month before the killings, Nick's behavior had become "alarming," sources said. On the night before the murders, the three had attended Conan O'Brien's Christmas party, and reportedly argued upon returning home about Nick's conduct at the event.
In recent years, Reiner had been treated at a Los Angeles rehabilitation center focusing on mental health conditions and drug dependency. The facility, which costs approximately $70,000 per month, is frequented by wealthy families seeking help for their struggling children.

Rob Reiner was widely known for his acting and directing career, with notable roles in The Wolf of Wall Street and New Girl as Jess Day's father, Bob Day. He directed iconic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
