A fire hydrant serves as an active fire protection connection point, usually situated on streets or in public spaces, providing firefighters with direct access to a water main to combat blazes. It acts as a high-pressure water source to refill fire engines or power hoses directly, appearing either as above-ground pillars or underground valves covered by marked plates.
These 'H' signs are strategically placed near fire hydrants, enabling emergency crews to locate them swiftly during crises. Moreover, the signs convey detailed information through added numbers. The larger number at the top indicates the size of the water main feeding the hydrant in millimetres, while the smaller number at the bottom shows the distance to the hydrant from the sign in metres.
