Officer Appears in Court Over Fatal Christmas Eve Collision
A Merseyside Police officer has been charged in connection with the death of a 22-year-old woman who was described as a 'brilliant' graduate. Rachael Louise Moore lost her life after being struck by a marked police vehicle while she was crossing a road in Liverpool. The tragic incident occurred on Christmas Eve in 2022.
Not Guilty Plea Entered at Magistrates' Court
The case took a significant step forward last week when the Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed that PC Scott Thompson has been charged with causing death by careless driving. Thompson made his first court appearance at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Monday, November 24. During the hearing, the officer entered a formal plea of not guilty to the single charge against him.
Crown Court Trial Scheduled for the New Year
Following his plea, the magistrate released PC Thompson on unconditional bail. The case has now been escalated to a higher court for a full trial. PC Scott Thompson is scheduled to appear at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on January 6 of next year, where proceedings will continue.
