A parasite outbreak at a popular Edinburgh attraction has left six people ill after participating in a lamb feeding experience. Health officials have issued guidance following the incident at Craigies Farm, near South Queensferry.
Outbreak Details
Six individuals, including children, have fallen ill with cryptosporidiosis, an infection caused by the parasite cryptosporidium. This condition is often associated with environments where people have close contact with animals. The affected persons are believed to have contracted the infection during the lamb feeding activity at the farm.
One mother was reportedly hospitalized, and several children experienced symptoms of the illness. Cryptosporidiosis can cause diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and vomiting, and is particularly dangerous for young children and those with weakened immune systems.
Health Guidance
Medical professionals have advised anyone who visited Craigies Farm and developed symptoms to seek medical attention. They emphasize the importance of hand hygiene, especially after contact with animals, to prevent the spread of the parasite.
This is a developing story. More updates will follow as further information becomes available.
