Naked Man Allegedly Steals Ambulance with Dying Patient in High-Speed Police Chase
A shocking incident in Wisconsin has seen a man accused of stealing an ambulance while naked, with a critically ill patient inside, and leading police on a dramatic high-speed chase. Benjamin Feltz, aged 37, is alleged to have committed the bizarre crime after consuming a significant amount of floor cleaner, sparking a dangerous pursuit that lasted over 40 minutes.
Chaotic Scene as Ambulance is Stolen
According to police reports, the incident unfolded when paramedics were loading a 50-year-old woman, who was suffering from a critical kidney disease, into the back of an ambulance. In a sudden and audacious move, Feltz, who was completely nude, allegedly sneaked into the driver's seat, slammed the door shut, and sped away with the patient still inside. The woman, fearing for her life, reportedly pleaded with Feltz during the chase, telling him, "I'm dying of kidney disease," and urging him to turn the vehicle around.
High-Speed Police Pursuit Across Wisconsin
Law enforcement officers immediately gave chase, with the ambulance reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour during the pursuit. The chase covered approximately 18 miles before coming to an end in the town of Pittsville. Police used a spike strip to deflate the ambulance's tyres, forcing it to stop. Throughout the incident, authorities were deeply concerned for the welfare of the patient in the back, leading them to deploy a drone to safely observe the situation from a distance before making an arrest.
Bizarre Behaviour and Threats During Arrest
After the ambulance was stopped, Feltz allegedly refused police orders to exit the vehicle. When officers finally apprehended him, he is said to have hurled abuse and made violent threats. According to arrest reports, he told one officer, "I will kick your ass" and "it's time for you to feel my pain." When questioned if this was a threat, Feltz reportedly responded, "yes," before adding, "it's your turn to die." The patient, who has not been publicly identified, described being so terrified during the ordeal that she defecated herself, highlighting the extreme distress caused by the incident.
Prior Incidents and Substance Involvement
Prior to the ambulance theft, witnesses reported seeing Feltz engaging in strange public behaviour, including doing naked push-ups and shouting profanities at people nearby. Police investigations revealed that Feltz does not possess a valid driving licence. A breathalyser test showed no alcohol in his system, but he admitted to officers that there might have been some "pot" in his system. Most notably, he confessed to drinking "half a bottle" of floor cleaner on the afternoon of the incident. In police statements, Feltz indicated that his actions were not an attempt to harm or kill himself, though no clear motive was provided.
Legal Charges and Aftermath
Benjamin Feltz now faces a total of 10 criminal offences, including driving while intoxicated. Fortunately, neither Feltz nor the patient sustained any injuries during the chaotic event, with only minor damage reported to the ambulance. The case has drawn significant attention due to its unusual and dangerous nature, raising questions about public safety and the vulnerabilities of emergency medical services.
