A young mother who was tragically killed by her ex-boyfriend after he forced his way into her home and detonated an explosive device has been identified as Joanne Shaw, 35. The incident occurred on Sunday at her residence in Sterncourt Road, Bristol, where Ryan Kelly, 41, caused a blast that claimed both their lives.

Armed officers were already en route to the address following a 999 call made at 6:17 AM, reporting a domestic-related incident. Just 13 minutes later, at 6:30 AM, an explosion was heard. Police were informed that a man was believed to be in possession of an explosive device shortly before the blast. Three other individuals—believed to be Miss Shaw's son and two other family members—sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.

Avon and Somerset Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previously reported domestic incidents involving the couple. Superintendent Matt Ebbs stated: 'We know people will be shocked and upset to learn of the horrendous events that happened on Sunday morning. Jo's death has been officially recorded as a homicide based on the information known to us at this time. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.'
Officers continue to gather evidence from the scene in what has been described as a 'complex and sensitive investigation.' A bomb disposal unit was deployed, and the British Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal conducted specialist searches. The area was deemed safe by Sunday evening.

Miss Shaw is believed to have recently moved into the terraced house to escape Mr Kelly. She worked at a tanning salon and previously served as an assistant manager at workspace hire firm BE Offices. Mr Kelly had a criminal record, having been jailed for five years in 2015 for conspiracy to supply cocaine as part of a 'Breaking Bad' drugs gang. The gang, led by 78-year-old cancer-stricken George Rogers, planned to produce crystal meth but were thwarted by undercover police.
