A man from Wrexham has been handed a significant prison sentence for operating a sinister online business selling dangerous chemicals to people at risk of suicide.
The Grim Operation Uncovered
Miles Cross, aged 52, used the internet to market and distribute lethal substances from his home in the Gwersyllt area of Wrexham. His activities came to light following a tragic death in October 2021, which prompted a thorough investigation by North Wales Police.
Officers discovered that Cross was selling these chemicals for profit, specifically targeting vulnerable individuals. He was found guilty of multiple offences, including encouraging or assisting suicide and placing unsafe consumer goods on the market. The prosecution detailed how he had sold these items to people he knew were in a fragile mental state.
Sentencing and Police Condemnation
At Mold Crown Court, Cross was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison. The judge emphasised the predatory and calculated nature of his crimes, which exploited people's despair for financial gain.
Detective Sergeant Leigh Evans of North Wales Police led the investigation. He described Cross's actions as "abhorrent" and stated that the defendant had shown a complete disregard for human life. The police confirmed they had identified 272 people who had purchased items from Cross, with 88 of those individuals located within the UK. This highlighted the widespread and dangerous reach of his operation.
