Discovery and Arrest on Bondway

The body of 41-year-old Kaleem Shaik was found inside a property on Bondway in the Lambeth area on the evening of Thursday, 1 January. Police officers from the Metropolitan Police attended the address at approximately 8pm following concerns raised about the welfare of an occupant.

Upon arrival, they discovered the victim's body. Daniel Levy, aged 48 and of the same road on Bondway, was arrested on the same day. He was subsequently charged with murder on Saturday, 3 January.

Court Appearance and Ongoing Investigation

Levy appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court where he was formally charged and remanded into custody. He is next scheduled to appear for a hearing at the Old Bailey on Monday, 5 January.

The family of Mr Shaik, who reside in India, have been informed of his death. Specialist family liaison officers from the Metropolitan Police are providing them with support during this difficult time.

Police Reassure Local Community

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, the senior investigating officer leading the case, stated: "Our thoughts are with Kaleem's family at this very difficult time." He added a crucial update on the investigation's status, confirming, "My team is not currently seeking any additional suspects in relation to this tragic incident."

Addressing potential concerns within the neighbourhood, DCI Clarke said, "We understand the concern this will have caused the local community and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days." This move is intended to provide reassurance following the shocking discovery at the start of the new year.
