Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the tragic discovery of a man and a dog found deceased inside a van in St Austell, Cornwall. Emergency services were called to a layby on the B3273 at approximately 3pm on Friday, May 1, after members of the public raised concerns about the vehicle.
Investigation Underway
Upon arrival, officers found both the man and the dog unresponsive inside the van. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Police have stated that the deaths are not being treated as suspicious, but investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Images from the scene show the van cordoned off with police tape. A bouquet of flowers was placed on the windscreen, left as a tribute by a passerby or loved one. The area remained closed for several hours while forensic examinations were conducted.
Local residents have expressed shock and sadness at the news. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's absolutely heartbreaking. You never expect something like this to happen in a quiet spot like this."
