Live Grenade and Firearms Seized in Sydney Suburb After 'Huge Bangs'
Live grenade seized in Sydney suburb attack

Residents Awakened by 'Huge Bangs' in Peaceful Suburb

Residents of a typically tranquil Sydney suburb were jolted from their sleep by the sound of 'huge bangs' in the early hours of Thursday morning, leading to the discovery of a live grenade and an arsenal of weapons. The incident occurred on Loura Street in Tallawong, located in northwest Sydney.

Violent Home Invasion Attempt

Police were called to the property at approximately 4.40am on Thursday following reports of shots being fired. Officers were informed that two individuals had attempted to force entry into the home using a sledgehammer before firing several shots into the property.

The investigation is now exploring a disturbing possibility: that grenades were thrown at the home, rather than the sounds being solely from gunfire as residents first presumed. Remarkably, the man and woman inside the home at the time emerged physically uninjured.

Major Police Operation and Evidence Recovery

The attackers reportedly fled the scene in a Mazda. A significant amount of evidence was recovered, including:

  • A firearm
  • Bleach
  • A magazine
  • A mobile phone

These items were allegedly found inside the abandoned vehicle. In nearby parklands, officers also located gloves, balaclavas, and hoodies.

The situation escalated dramatically with the discovery of a live grenade, which prompted specialist bomb disposal officers and ADF personnel to descend on the property to safely remove the dangerous device.

Shaken locals expressed their alarm at the violent disturbance in what is normally a quiet suburban area. This incident follows a spate of shootings in Sydney's west last week that left residents terrified. On November 19, three shootings occurred within a four-hour period, forcing police to respond to multiple crime scenes across the city.

An investigation into the Tallawong incident is continuing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
