A man has been charged over the death of a Kings College London student who was killed when a van crashed into pedestrians on a busy central London street.
Family's Tribute to a 'Beautiful Soul'
Aalia Mahomed, a 20-year-old described by her devastated family as a "bright, kind and beautiful soul," died at the scene on the Strand on March 18 last year. The second-year physics and philosophy undergraduate was sitting on a bench when the incident occurred.
Court Appearance Following Fatal Collision
Christopher Jackson appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, 5 January 2026. He faces one count of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the crash.
It is alleged that the van first collided with a metal gate before hitting the bench where Aalia was sitting. The tragic event unfolded in one of the capital's most iconic areas, close to the university's campus.
A Promising Future Cut Short
The university confirmed Aalia was a student in her second year, pursuing a joint degree in two demanding disciplines. Her death has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond.
This remains a developing story as legal proceedings begin. The case highlights the ongoing consequences of dangerous driving on London's streets.
