Pants-Wearing Kangaroo Escapes Wisconsin Petting Zoo, Police Seek Public Help
Kangaroo in Pants Escapes Wisconsin Zoo, Police Seek Help

A kangaroo sporting a pair of stylish denim pants has made a dramatic escape from a petting zoo in central Wisconsin, prompting local authorities to launch a public search for the missing marsupial. The Juneau County Sheriff's Office has issued an urgent appeal for assistance in locating Chesney, the runaway roo, who executed what officials described as a "full-on prison break" from Sunshine Farm in Necedah.

The Great Escape

Chesney's great escape occurred just after noon on Wednesday when the kangaroo became spooked and managed to flee his enclosure at the petting zoo, located approximately 90 miles north of Madison. His worried owner has been conducting extensive searches using a drone both Wednesday and Thursday, but as of Thursday afternoon, Chesney remained at large despite several reported sightings in different directions.

Fashionable Fugitive

Photographs shared by the sheriff's office show Chesney wearing what appears to be a fashionable pair of denim pants, though his owner confirmed on social media that the kangaroo made his escape without his distinctive trousers. "He doesn't have his diaper on right now, so he blends in with the woods," she explained, adding to the challenge of locating the marsupial.

Authorities reported that Chesney was last seen "bouncing through the area of 23rd & 9th like he's training for the Olympics," suggesting the kangaroo was moving with considerable speed and agility through the Wisconsin landscape. The sheriff's office has cautioned the public to exercise care if they encounter the animal, noting that Chesney is "likely scared" and advising residents not to "challenge him to a boxing match."

Legal Exotic Pet

While kangaroos might seem an unusual sight in Wisconsin, owning one is perfectly legal in the state. Sunshine Farm's social media displays various animals, but Chesney stands out as their most exotic resident. This incident echoes a similar occurrence last August when a kangaroo named Sheila escaped from her enclosure in Alabama, making headlines as she hopped along Interstate 85 before being captured with a tranquilizer dart and safely returned home after veterinary examination.

Search Continues

As the search enters its second day, Chesney's owner remains hopeful but realistic about the challenges of locating the kangaroo. "He could be anywhere," she acknowledged on the Sunshine Farm Facebook page, where she has been documenting the search efforts and reported sightings. The combination of Chesney's natural camouflage without his pants and the vast wooded areas of central Wisconsin has complicated recovery efforts.

The Juneau County Sheriff's Office continues to monitor the situation closely, coordinating with local residents and animal control experts to ensure the safe return of the pants-wearing kangaroo to his home at Sunshine Farm petting zoo.
