Olive Farrow, a four-year-old girl, tragically died after being struck by a car on Nottingham Road in Gotham, Nottinghamshire, on Sunday, July 12, at 2:28 PM. She was taken to hospital but died shortly after. A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed.
Family's Heartfelt Tribute
In a tribute issued by the police, Olive's family described her as a 'cheeky, funny and sassy little girl' with a big personality. 'Not a day went by without Olive singing and dancing her way round the house and spreading her affection; always kissing and cuddling and going out of her way to be kind to everyone,' they said. She was 'inseparable' from her brothers Teddy and Sonny, whom she 'looked up to with so much love.'
Olive was due to start primary school with her brother Sonny, having already attended taster sessions. 'She was so excited to be joining her brother there,' the family added. 'No words can express the loss and pain felt across the family and all that knew Olive, we are utterly devastated to think we can no longer hold her in our arms.'
Community Support and Vigil
The family thanked the community for their support, noting the 'outpouring of love with the messages and flowers laid on Nottingham Road.' A vigil was planned at St Lawrence's Church in Gotham on Friday, with a request that media not attend. Sergeant Paul Clark of Nottinghamshire Police stated, 'This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts continue to be with Olive's loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.' He urged the public not to speculate on social media and to respect the family's privacy.
Investigation Ongoing
The circumstances of Olive's death are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police quoting incident 424 of July 12. The 59-year-old suspect remains on bail as inquiries continue.
