A Florida sheriff's deputy was shot and killed on Friday while attempting to serve an eviction notice at a beachside residence on the state's Atlantic coast, in a tragic incident that also left the alleged shooter and two others wounded.
Details of the Tragic Shooting
The incident occurred in the Bermuda Club neighbourhood near Vero Beach. According to Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers, deputies had accompanied a locksmith to the property where a resident was in the process of evicting her own son. While the officers were positioned in the home's entryway, the son reportedly grabbed a firearm and began "indiscriminately firing" at the law enforcement officials present.
The deputy who lost her life was identified as Terri Mashkow, a 47-year-old veteran with 25 years of service at the sheriff's office. Another deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and is currently recovering. The locksmith, who was working for law enforcement at the time, was shot and underwent surgery; he was listed in critical condition alongside the accused shooter.

Sheriff Flowers confirmed the details at a news conference held on Friday, 21st November 2025. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier also acknowledged the shooting during a separate briefing, where he called for a moment of silence for the officers involved in the line of duty.
