Murder Investigation Launched After Pensioner's Death

Police have opened a murder investigation following the tragic death of 76-year-old Jalal Shah, who was attacked while using a cash machine outside a Post Office in north London.

The elderly man was withdrawing money from the ATM on High Street in Ponders End, Enfield, on October 30 when he was ambushed in a violent robbery that left him with serious head injuries.

Community Mourns 'Kind-Hearted Gentleman'

Jalal Shah, described by friends and neighbours as a "lovely, kind-hearted, peaceful gentleman," lived just yards away from the scene of the attack. He was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition but sadly passed away on Wednesday, November 19.

Rasel Alam, owner of the Enfield Food Hall, paid tribute to Mr Shah, telling reporters: "He was the kindest most peaceful gentleman you could ever meet. He was always smiling and was a well known and respected member of the community. We are all heartbroken."

A local post office worker recalled that Mr Shah had been taking money out of the cash machine outside when he was allegedly robbed. "We would see him up and down the road all the time - he had his routine. He was well known and a very kind man who never had any problems with anyone," the worker said.
