Derby Explosives Scare: Two Arrested, 200 Homes Evacuated

More than 200 homes have been evacuated and a major incident declared in Derby after police arrested two men on suspicion of explosives offences. Officers acted on intelligence about materials at an address in Vulcan Street, prompting a large-scale response.

Derbyshire Police confirmed that two men, one in his 40s and the other in his 50s, are in custody. The incident is not being investigated as terrorism, and there is no wider risk to the community, with evacuations described as a precautionary measure.

Residents within the affected area have been advised to prepare to be away from their homes for up to 24 hours, making arrangements for pets and medication. A cordon is in place affecting several roads, and police are knocking on doors to ensure all residents are accounted for.
