The incident occurred on Saturday, May 2, during the peak of China's May Day holiday period.
Details of the Collision
The Airbus A350-900 was seen taxiing slowly towards the assigned gate when its left wing struck the boarding bridge, causing a large section to fall off. Images showed the half-collapsed bridge moments after the aircraft touched down. Witnesses reported that after the initial collision, the plane reversed and then moved forward again, hitting the structure a second time, accompanied by a loud noise. Passengers described an impact sensation similar to turbulence.
The left wing's high-value Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engine was directly impacted, according to reports. China Eastern Airlines confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely via the unaffected side of the aircraft. The carrier later issued a formal apology for the disruption caused.
