In a harrowing case that has shocked the community, newly revealed text messages depict the final, desperate attempts of a university student to placate his agitated roommate just hours before he was allegedly stabbed to death.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old student, sent a series of conciliatory texts to his roommate, Troy Michael Bailey, on the night of September 7th, attempting to de-escalate a tense living situation. The messages, now key evidence, show Robinson's growing concern as Bailey's behaviour became increasingly erratic and threatening.
"I'm not trying to fight you, brother. I'm on your side," Robinson pleaded in one text, later adding, "I don't want to live in a hostile environment. If you're angry, just talk to me."
Tragically, his attempts at peace were in vain. Salt Lake City police were called to the shared apartment near the University of Utah campus in the early hours of September 8th. They discovered Robinson with fatal stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Swift Arrest and Serious Charges
Following their investigation, authorities arrested 23-year-old Troy Michael Bailey, who has been charged with murder and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person. He is currently being held without bail.
Court documents state that another roommate witnessed the violent altercation. The witness reported that Bailey was "aggressive and acting crazy" before the attack, which occurred in the kitchen of the apartment.
A Life Cut Short
Tyler Robinson is remembered by friends and family as a kind and loyal person. A fundraiser set up in his memory describes him as someone who "loved deeply and was always there for his friends." His sudden and violent death has left a community in mourning and raised serious questions about student safety and mental health.
The investigation is ongoing as prosecutors prepare their case against Bailey, who is scheduled for a court appearance in the coming weeks.
